The eight-episode series also stars Patricia Clarkson as Adam's mother, in addition to Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith and Madison Davenport.
In the series, Adams plays Camille Preaker - a reporter that's been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital but a return to her hometown takes a grisly turn.
As Camille investigates the murders, she also confronts traumatizing events from her past. Sharp Objects promises to lean into that fact, with Big Little Lies'Jean-Marc Vallee directing and creator Marti Noxon writing the scripts. "Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story-and survive this homecoming". This series is definitely going to fill the Big Little Lies hole in your heart this summer. The question is: will audiences take to Objects as well as they did to Lies? One has to wonder if this adaptation might end up being too bleak for general audiences.
This is Flynn's third murder-mystery novel to be adapted for the screen.
It's a little hard to gather anything about what we can expect from the adapted story as the trailer doesn't reveal too much. You may already know that Flynn wrote Gone Girl, Dark Places and David Fincher's upcoming project, Utopia, but her next project has all the hallmarks of a modern classic.
HBO dropped the first trailer over the weekend and the series itself is confirmed to air in July but a premiere date has not been set.
