Brandon man killed in Maryland shooting

She told police she escaped to a neighboring house Monday, but Snyder followed her there.

A man has shot dead three of his neighbors and killed himself after his wife allegedly fled their home where he had been holding her captive for days.

Thomas Manger, after set up in the home of neighbors shooting Snyder barricaded himself in his house and resisted police. He did not detail what those contacts were, but said police plan to provide more information about them in the future.

Christopher Wilson Snyder, 41, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to NBC affiliate WRC. Those who were killed were the neighbor, Mary Ann Olson, 66; a vistor the Olson residence from Brandon, South Dakota, Danny Lee Murphy, 70; and a contractor who doing work at the Olson home Craig Shotwell, 54, of Owings Mills, Md. Two others and Snyder's wife escaped unharmed.

The police were alerted to the situation after receiving a number of 911 calls at 3:44 p.m. EDT, some of which had sounds of gunshots going off in the background. At 10:50 p.m., Starks said people were still being asked to remain in their homes.

"When they breached the front door, the suspect was on the phone with negotiators".

His last words over the phone were: 'Did they just break in the front door?' "At that point, officers outside the home heard a single gun shot".

The suspect, who is believed to be known to police, remains at large.

The tactical team was searching the rest of the house because, during the negotiations, police learned that there could be explosives and several guns inside the house, Manger said.
