Boston could have completed a 4-0 series win over Philadelphia, but the 76ers registered a 103-92 win to set up a fifth game on Wednesday. The victor will face off against the Cavs in the conference finals. They won four of seven from a tough, talented IN team, followed by an overwhelming four-game sweep of the No.1 seed IN the East. It was one of those kinds of nights.
Playoff messages don't get much bigger than a No. 4 seed sweeping a No. 1 seed.
"LeBron just scares other teams to death", Pluto said. And it showed real grit in mounting one comeback after another, only to have James and the Cavs push them back. Cleveland was also 11-1 at Quicken Loans Arena since December 2014.
In the previous five games in the playoffs, the Cavs' forward averaged 8.8 points and 9.4 points with 26 percent from the field.
Their reward? The most precious reward of all this time of year - rest.
Let's not forget, however, that neither the C's nor the Cavs have punched their tickets to the conference finals just yet. It's been uglier than expected at times.
"You look at the rookie class from this year, it's probably the best since 2003", he added, breaking himself and the assembled reporters up.
Even Saturday Night Live contributed to the narrative that LeBron James is a one-man team, producing a skit this past weekend that displayed fictional Cavaliers' teammates saying things like: "LeBron throws us the ball, and we throw it right back".
With their effectiveness, the starters help lead the Cavs to shoot nearly 60 percent from the floor and 46 percent from three-point range Monday night. James entered Game 4 with 348 points in these playoffs, the most through 10 games by any player since Michael Jordan (354) in 1992.
The Cavs will go for the sweep against the Raptors on Monday night. The writers who cover the team every day keep Google documents containing the transcript of every interview every player has given to groups of reporters after games, morning shootarounds, and practices. So, basically anything outside of exclusive or TV or radio interviews, we have them.
"But the other guys in the Cavaliers stepped it up as well". It's a highlight that has been replayed endlessly on sports TV ever since, along with pundits discussing how Cleveland owns Toronto in the playoffs. Their ire was heightened when a potential three-point play - an Ibaka bucket and Cavs foul - was changed to no basket and a non-shooting foul after a loud protest by James.
While the Raptors were blown out 128-110 in Game 2, they had plenty of chances to win Game 1 - a 113-12 overtime loss during which the Cavaliers never led in regulation time.
