Cardinals aware of Christian Kirk arrest before draft

Christian Kirk, a former standout at Scottsdale Saguaro and Texas A&M who was drafted in the second round by the Cardinals, was arrested nearly two months before the draft as he was leaving the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Arizona Cardinals' second-round draft pick Christian Kirk (13) runs drills during NFL football rookie camp Friday, May 11, 2018, in Tempe, Ariz.

Kirk and another man were arrested and charged with criminal damage to a auto before being released.

Witnesses reported seeing the men throwing rocks in the parking lot for the golf tournament held at TPC Scottsdale.

Here is what a Cardinals spokesperson told NFL.com: "We were aware of this incident prior to the draft".

"Getting that call was the best feeling in the world", Kirk said earlier this month about getting drafted by the team he rooted for growing up.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Cardinals, who said that the team had already spoken to Kirk about what allegedly happened at the Phoenix Open, and had looked "independently" into the case. "Our understanding is that the process will be resolved in the near future but while it remains an active legal matter, we won't comment further". That is what I would be interested to know, and I'm sure we won't get an answer. "We're not going to worry about getting a phone call in the middle of the morning that someone out in Scottsdale is doing something insane".

The 21-year-old receiver was a standout at Saguaro High in Scottsdale before playing at Texas A&M.

If that's not bad enough, TMZ adds that Kirk was high on cocaine at the time of the arrest.
