Walcott: I'd love Rooney to stay

Rooney returned to his boyhood club ahead of this season after a trophy-laden 13 years at Manchester United but could be set to move on once more.

It is understood Rooney has been offered a contract until the end of the 2020 MLS season.

'My understanding of the situation is that there seems to have been some negotiations somewhere along the line, ' said Allardyce. Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave and neither has Wayne Rooney had a confrontation with me. I don't get involved in anything regarding transfers in or out or negotiations.

The England legend is subject to a reported £12 million move to Major League Soccer franchise DC United when the current Premier League campaign ends, but the Toffees boss claims nothing has been finalised in that regard.

'Only after I've spoken him today will I find out where the situation actually lies.

Allardyce planned to speak to the player yesterday after training and said he was comfortable with anyone who wanted to leave.

Rooney's agent Paul Stretford is said to have been in the US with talks at an advanced stage between the player's representative and the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit. "Glasgow is a tough city - if I was Wayne, I'd go to America".

Wayne Rooney has top-scored for Everton with 11 goals this season.

"The next level of recruitment has to be quality players to get into the team and make them better than what they are at this moment in time", the manager admitted in a press conference.

Everton forward Wayne Rooney has a moment with the referee during the English Premier League clash against Leicester City on 29 October 2017.

Rooney's apparent decision to see out his career elsewhere suggests he is not even bothering to discover how Allardyce's own Goodison Park power struggle plays out, with many supporters keen for a new manager to be brought in this summer.

One year on, it may be even more hard to succeed. "I used to say, there wasn't many left". That's it. Next season is already planned.
