According to a recent interview with Nicky Jam's manager Juan Diego Medina that aired on W Radio, Jam and Smith were in Budapest wrapping up the record, which is set to be released on Friday (May 25).
He additionally tagged American DJ Diplo and Kosovar singer and songwriter Period Istrefi within the put up. Will Smith and Diplo will be teaming up for the official song of this summer's World Cup in Russian Federation, according to Billboard.
Smith, who turns 50 this fall (feel old?), was, of course, a successful rapper in the late 1980s and '90s but hasn't released an album since 2005 and his 2017 "Get Lit" track with Jazzy Jeff was, shall we say, poorly received.
The four are believed to have filmed the video for the World Cup track over the weekend as well. "They're making this big song and it's just so insane."Allegedly, Smith and Nicky were in Budapest recently finishing the song".
While multiple songs are associated with the World Cup, only the official anthem will be performed at the finale of the World Cup, which will take place from June 14 to July 15 before an estimated 2 billion people worldwide.
Smith has been seen dancing around Cartagena, and Nicky Jam tweeted that "the best part is the process". Past anthems have been done by Shakira ("Waka Waka") and Ricky Martin ("The Cup of Life"), so Smith doing it this year is not a huge leap in the big picture.
Still, how can anyone top the perfection of Queen's "We Are the Champions" from 1994?
