Russia says 4 of its soldiers have been killed in Syria

The fighting lasted about an hour, resulting in the deaths of 43 IS fighters and in the destruction of six all-terrain vehicles, the report said.

On October 3, 2017, Russia's Defense Ministry denied that two Russian soldiers had been captured by the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Syria.

At least 26 Syrian regime forces and nine Russian fighters were killed in an Islamic State group attack earlier this week in Syria's eastern desert, a monitor said Sunday.

"There were 35 pro-government forces killed, including at least nine Russians". They said some, but not all of the Russians were troops. "The military doctors had been fighting for the life of two wounded servicemen, but they did not manage to save them", the ministry said. This would suggest that the other five Russians were mercenaries, which have been popularly used by Syria, particularly in the Deir Ezzor Province.

Despite various statements by Putin's government suggesting that the Russian military had completed its role in the area, it has become an essential pillar for the government of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria.

Several mobile groups of terrorists have attacked a Syrian government's artillery battalion.

Russian Federation has lost about 90 personnel in the civil war.

According to the ministry, the fight in the Syrian province of Deir-ez-Zor happened in the dark.

A Syrian military source based in the east told AFP that Assad's troops had cleared large parts of territory from IS, which was now lashing out.

Terrorists attacked Syrian and Russian troops, and the latter was forced to respond, according to the MoD.

The biggest number of casualties came in March when a transport plane crashed at Syria's Hmeimim airbase, killing all 39 people on board.
