"FC Barcelona and Samuel Umtiti have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract for a further five seasons through to 2022-2023", A statement from the club read.
The player has been granted permission by France coach Didier Deschamps to return to Spain on Monday morning to sign his new contract which will tie him to Barcelona until 30 June 2023.
It's expected to be around the €500m mark, which would be the same as the buyout clauses included in the new deals signed by Sergi Roberto and Gerard Pique earlier this year. He arrived here two years ago and is now an important part of the squad. "Without Samuel, this team would not be the same and we need him". That his release clause has reportedly been bumped up to €500 million will also come as a huge relief to everyone associated with the club, effectively ending the chances of any suitor to snap him up.
It's evident that with such a high clause, Barcelona are confident that Umtiti will remain at the club for a long time.
"(But) I do not want to talk about Griezmann". With the city and the team, I've earned everyone's trust.
"I just said the word 'joker.' I don't know how that word is interpreted [in Spain], but you can interpret it as you wish".
Umtiti added: "I'm nervous today because this is a dream that continues. This is my home", said Umtiti.
