Real Madrid's stance on Cristiano Ronaldo sale hangs on one major detail

Ronaldo, Portugal's most capped player and record scorer, missed the first week of training and the friendlies against Tunisia and Belgium after playing for Real Madrid in the Champions League final against Liverpool at the end of last month.

Asensio, 22, said of the Frenchman: "What Zidane did took us all a little by surprise, but my experience with him has been very good".

TeamTalk are citing a report from AS that claims Ronaldo has made a decision to leave Madrid after they refused to meet his salary demands following talks over yet another contract extension.

"Right now we need to enjoy ourselves but in the next few days I'll give an answer to the fans who have always been by my side".

But according to Marca, Madrid have told Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes that they are unwilling to match the player's demands. Real president Florentino Pérez, for whom seeing Neymar pull on the white shirt has become an obsession, would then put those funds towards the signing of the Paris Saint-Germain forward in a deal which, AS has learned, would be worth around 400m euros.

According to Tomas Roncero of AS, Ronaldo, 33, is particularly irked by the fact that Real look prepared to make a huge splash on the Brazilian when they have yet to improve his own contract.

In a way this is a fairly reasonable assumption, Neymar is seven years his junior, but Ronaldo is probably afraid the 26-year-old will replace him as the main man at the Bernabeu sooner rather than later.

Ronaldo looking weirdly not that happy to win the Champions League. With the focus now shifting to the World Cup, top clubs have begun their work on the transfer front.
