Former FIFA boss Blatter revels in visit to Putin, World Cup

Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter claims that VAR is failing due to a lack of consistency.

He has previously suggested there was an agreement in place for Russian Federation to host the 2018 World Cup - before the vote took place.

"We had small talks", Blatter, who converses with Putin in German, told reporters Thursday.

It was a chance to give his image a makeover, just like Blatter enabled Putin to do with Russian Federation by awarding him the World Cup.

Blatter's 17-year spell in charge of world football's governing body ended amid a corruption scandal in 2015.

"Today I saw Infantino and Blatter at the stadium, it's true", TASS quoted Sorokin as saying.

The Swiss denied his presence at the World Cup would embarrass his successor, Gianni Infantino. Blatter was FIFA president from 1998 until being suspended from office in October 2015 in the fallout from US and Swiss federal investigations of worldwide football officials. "We spoke about football and the good start of the competition, the good start of the team".

Trump will travel to Brussels for a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit July 11-12, and the meeting with Putin could take place before that, perhaps in Vienna, reports Reuters.

Blatter's presence in Russian Federation is awkward and a little embarrassing for sport's new leadership trying to rebuild its reputation after corruption-scarred years.

FIFA, the Local Organising Committee and the Host Cities of the FIFA World Cup™ are thrilled to announce that the FIFA Fan Fest™ has already welcomed 2.5 million visitors.

"It is good to be a fan", Blatter said before posing for photographs with the laminated Fan ID card.

Thankfully, Blatter will be gone by the end of the week, and can stop pretending the World Cup is all about him.

"I had the impression it was my World Cup ... that time has not stopped since I went to the last one in Brazil", he said, smiling.
