1 dead, 9 injured after boat explosion off coast of the Bahamas

In less than a day, a GoFundMe site set up for Schaffer raised more than $50,000 to help with medical expenses and travel.

Brooke and Stefanie's father, George Schaffer, and their brother, George Jr., are traveling to be with them in the Bahamas.

ONE person is dead and several others are injured after a boating accident in Exuma. Stefanie's mother Stacey is also injured with two fractured legs. Paul and Brooke suffered bruises and cuts.

Some passengers aboard the nearby boat were anxious that their vessel could also catch fire if they got too close. "The kind words and prayers are very much needed and appreciated".

The tragedy shocked a member of Parliament for Exumas, Chester Cooper, who took to Facebook and said an American woman had died in the explosion. The cause of the explosion has not been determined at this time. "This is a sad day for Exuma and a sad day for our American friends".

The Royal Bahamas Police Force's Exuma branch are now investigating the incident.

A video of the incident, filmed from a nearby boat and posted to YouTube, shows the vessel covered in flames with thick black smoke rising. We are saddened and our hearts our hurting, but we will get through this together.

"An HC-130 Hercules airplane crew with two medical personnel from Air Station Clearwater was launched, landed in Exuma, and transported the boaters to the air station where emergency medical services awaited", the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The company that ran the trip, 4C's Adventures, declined to comment on the explosion to DailyMail.com because they are under investigation.
