Guardiola admits Man City missed out on ‘an exceptional player’ in Jorginho

Manchester City's World Cup representatives could miss the Community Shield tie against Chelsea and Premier League opener against Arsenal as they recover from a sustained period of club and global action, manager Pep Guardiola has said.

But after the arrival of Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, the 26-year-old opted to follow his old boss from Napoli to Stamford Bridge.

"It would have been a mistake for him if he came and he wanted to go to Chelsea with (new manager) Maurizio Sarri. He's so young and in two years it is another European Championships and then in four years another World Cup", Guardiola said during a press conference during their U.S. tour. "My advice is for players to go where they want to go", he told a news conference ahead of Friday's International Champions Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund (9:05 p.m. ET, ESPN2).

'English football received an exceptional player at the end. "In his situation, he's here and we will try to find a solution, which is best for him and if not he'll stay here".

Hart spent last season on loan at West Ham, however, the former England number one is in the squad as he searches for a permanent move away.

Pep Guardiola fears his preparations for Manchester City's Premier League title defence have been affected by the World Cup.

The effect of City having a record 16 players at the World Cup is that the squad Guardiola has available for the International Champions Cup tournament in the United States is shorn of experience.

"No, we're not disappointed, We tried".

"We spoke - they have to come back ready", he added. If the days before they are exhausted and they don't want to fight for the Community Shield, play at Arsenal, then stay on holidays.

"We'll decide on the last day".

Watch Manchester City's opening game of the Premier League season against Arsenal on August 12. "I can't say why certain decisions were made".
