Playing two spinners at Lord's tempting, says Virat Kohli

Will they play a second-spinner or will Cheteshwar Pujara find a place back in the team?

Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes has been named as Stokes' replacement, while Ollie Pope has been drafted in for the dropped Dawid Malan.

"We really need to look at any change in strategy, depending on the wicket".

Chris Woakes will come in if England opt for a further seam option, while Moeen Ali will play if the hosts plump for two spinners.

Bowling coach Bharat Arun said in the press conference on Tuesday that playing an extra batsman would be a conservative move even though India's batting put up a miserable account of themselves at Edgbaston.

"It hurts when you are not scoring runs (and) as well, the team is not doing well", Kohli said ahead of the crunch clash at the hone of cricket. Those are both facts that they will be keen to turn around - whether they are able to remains an altogether different prospect.

India: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Rishabh Pant, Karun Nair, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah.

His 149 in India's first innings was the 22nd century of his 67-match Test tenure. Root said that dropped catches in Birmingham were a concern against a quality side like India.

India will face England on Thursday at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground.

The India captain, Kohli scored 200 out of the 436 runs that India amassed during the match, and they had lost half their side by 100 in both innings.

"Virat's a fine player and it shows when you give the best players opportunities they don't need many more". Apart from Kohli, Root was the only other batsman to come away from Edgbaston with head held high. There's been a lot of talk about this - I look at this summer and twice I've managed to get past 50 and go on to make hundreds in succession. I am happy for him, as a cricketer, I understand how important it is. "The frustrating thing about last week it wasn't poor batsmanship (sic) that got me out, it was a poor passage of play in terms of running between the wickets".
