Chelsea sign Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in world record deal

Chelsea has signed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao to replace Thibaut Courtois, the Premier club announced on Wednesday.

"Subject to the completion of the deal Mateo Kovacic will join the Blues on a season-long loan". "I'm just going to be myself and try to give my best".

"I am really happy and excited to be here at Chelsea".

The Belgium worldwide, named best goalkeeper at the World Cup this summer, has signed a six-year deal.

Chelsea were unwilling to part ways with Courtois unless they had an immediate, suitable replacement lined up, but made the move to let their Belgian leave and get the Kepa deal over the line before the start of deadline day.

"When I [first] saw him play, I was just so struck by the fact that a keeper who was then only 18 could perform like that under such pressure".

Speaking after his move, the Croatian explained: 'I haven't trained a lot at Real Madrid because I badly wanted to come to Chelsea so I didn't do much training.

"I want to continue to add success to this club's history". "I knew some of the players in the current team because I had played with them in the Spanish national team, even in the World Cup", he said.

"I don't know about Thibaut", Giroud said after Chelsea's 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Lyon on Tuesday. "We are hoping to have a great season for the fans and I'm looking forward to the first game". He also helped Belgium achieve a third-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. "I find his style and ideas very attractive".

He also sustained a gut-wrenching defeat to Real in the 2014 Champions League final, when his new captain Sergio Ramos's injury time header denied Atletico glory, leading to Real winning 4-1 in extra-time.

"I would say the market in general has gone up in price a lot in the last few years".

Bilbao are notorious non-negotiators, only selling their players for the fees of their release clauses or for the demanded club fee.
