Usain Bolt scores two goals in A-League practice match

Usain Bolt scored his first two goals in professional soccer for his Australian League team, the Central Coast Mariners, on Friday night.

"I think I've improved in every area".

The contest was a preseason match between Australian clubs, but it nevertheless marked Bolt's first start in a professional soccer game.

Bolt headed a McCormack cross over the bar and failed to connect from close range with a volley as he continued his pursuit of a goal in the second half, which finally bore fruit in the 55th minute. I try to get better and I am on the way to doing that.

Bolt retired from the athletics track following the 2017 world championships in London, where he pulled up with a hamstring injury.

"Because this is what I've worked for".

"It was my first proper game and I'm just happy I got a chance", Bolt said.

His opening goal garnered worldwide attention, repaying the Central Coast club for taking the gamble to bring him to Australia on a trial basis. He celebrated the first goal with his "To Di World" pose and the second one with a Fortnite dance.

The debut, to be honest, didn't go well, and will be better remembered for Bolt missing a very good chance and having the touch of a man who is running around in square shoes.

His second came in slightly more fortuitous circumstances as a defensive mixup between keeper and defender saw the ball fall to Bolt, who rolled the ball home into an empty net.

He had made a couple of appearances before Friday's match for the side that finished 10th in the last A-League season.

An outspoken Manchester United fan, the 32-year-old has previously trained with Borussia Dortmund, and played in Soccer Aid at Old Trafford.

"Better than Lukaku", they said. I'm learning a lot, I've picked up a lot of things.

While Mielekamp stressed that the primary focus was getting the main team to Brisbane for the opening match of the season next weekend, he said he was taking time to enjoy the attention Bolt has focused on his club.
