Unai Emery reveals Arsenal plan for January transfer window after Southampton defeat

Charlie Austin scored a 85th-minute victor as Southampton ended Arsenal's 22-match unbeaten run.

That's bad news for Arsenal, who are facing five games between Wednesday and January 1, starting with a Carabao Cup quarterfinal against Tottenham. But I don't believe I would in this transfer window because it's not a very big possibility with the players.

Unai Emery admit he is not optimistic about adding to Arsenal's threadbare squad in the January transfer window following Sunday's defeat to Southampton.

"January is not good for this reason, but we are going to look and the club is working for this in January".

"Other players, like Xhaka played very well, and Lichtsteiner also".

"Sokratis is coming back and we will see how Mustafi and Kolasinac are, and it is good news [Laurent] Koscielny can be with us for the next matches".

Hasenhuttl is bidding to become the first Southampton manager to win his first home Premier League clash since 2004, but comes up against an Arsenal outfit keen to lose no ground in the top four race. The Frenchman is accompanied by Hector Bellerin, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Nacho Monreal in the backline, with Bernd Leno starting in goal.

'It's true we need to improve and concede less chances to the opposition, ' he said.

"We conceded chances today but we also had more chances to score than the two goals".

'We are not out of the situation at the moment, we are still in the zone where we are battling not to relegate, ' he said. It was important that we get our first points now and three we didn't have for a long time'.
