Pogba thanks former Manchester United boss Mourinho following Cardiff win

Paul Pogba was forced to watch the full 90 minutes from the bench last weekend as Liverpool inflicted the final blow to Mourinho's time in charge with a 3-1 win that left United 19 points off the top after just 17 games.

"We are happy the first game with the manager starts like this and the important thing now is to carry on like that".

"We won trophies with Jose and I want to thank him for that", said Pogba, who was accused of posting a sarcastic message on his Twitter account directed at Mourinho, and later deleted, less than an hour after the club confirmed the manager's departure. And I know what you want to ask...

"He's been well received, he's well liked, but I really think he'd be the least person I think of out of all of us to become a manager", Yorke added.

"We can not play like this with five goals and in the next game lose".

United go into the Christmas period in sixth place in the league table and the bookmakers reacted to their win in South Wales by cutting them in from 10/1 to 6/1 for a top-four finish.

"I'm pleased with all of them, every single one of them. A Man Utd team should never be outworked", said Solskjaer.

"They are such a great bunch of players, and the quality is just unbelievable".

United raced out to an early lead thanks to Marcus Rashford's 35-yard free kick, and soon afterwards made it 2-0 thanks to a deflected Ander Herrera strike from long range. "Wayne Rooney texted me and gave me some advice - so it must be down to him!" he laughed.

"I arrived on Wednesday night and only had Thursday and Friday with the players". Once Ole got the job, I thought I'd give him a message of congratulations.

Keane's former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken over the reins of the 20-time English champions on an interim basis before Manchester United look to make a permanent appointment at the end of the season.

Solskjaer has not been granted the time to change much but did say he told his players they must not be out-worked at the Cardiff City Stadium.
