Cortana may not have seen the same sort of success as digital assistants like Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant, but Microsoft now sees those platforms as an opportunity for success, not competitors.
Microsoft has formally set the end date for support of its all-but-forgotten Windows 10 Mobile platform.
Microsoft has announced that it is dropping mobile phone support by the end of 2019.
Microsoft introduced its Windows 10 Mobile platform back in 2015 with the Lumia 550, 950 and 950 XL smartphones.
Customers who plan to run devices with Windows 10 Mobile after support end are encouraged to craete manual backups; this is done under Settings Update & Security Backup More Options Back up now.
Microsoft is said to be working on a series of foldable devices that will be powered by Windows 10.
Windows 10 Mobile 1703 support ends on June 11, 2019.
As early as 2017, the company warned that it would stop developing new features or new hardware for Windows 10 Mobile, even though it promised to continue with security upgrades. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadela has said that Cortana will now move from being a voice assistant to a skill that can be used with other voice assistants.
Even though Windows Phone and Windows Mobile were responsible for some neat styles sporting heavy contrast and some affordable devices, it failed to gain traction, partly because app developers just didn't make the jump. In a recent update to the Windows 10 Mobile support page, a chance was noticed. Device backups will be available through March 10, 2020.
Microsoft moved Cortana from its AI research division to its Experiences and Devices team a year ago, which suggested Nadellas's focus on Cortana's implementation across various platforms.
The App Store may continue to work after end of support.
'We regret to inform you that at the end of March, the app version you're using is no longer supported and you cannot send and receive messages. If it starts with 10, you've the Windows 10 Mobile.
