Janice Freeman Dies: 'The Voice' Season 13 Contestant, Singer Dead

Janice Freeman, a powerhouse diva and cancer survivor who bravely competed on The Voice USA Season 13, has passed away of an apparent blood clot.

"On Saturday afternoon, Janice began complaining that she couldn't breath properly and, in a matter of minutes, required CPR from her husband", her rep said. She had beaten cervical cancer by the time she auditioned for the show and vowed to forge a better future for herself, husband, and young daughter. She reportedly suffered from multiple health issues, including lupus.

The performer made it to the top 11 on season 13 of The Voice under the mentorship of Miley Cyrus. The pair remained friends after the show, and in 2017, Cyrus paid Freeman's rent for six months when she was experiencing financial difficulty.

Freeman's friend Crystal Lewis, also a gospel singer, remembered Freeman on Instagram, writing, "We only met in person one time but we continued to communicate and I have to say few people IN MY WHOLE LIFE were as encouraging". They rushed her to the hospital, but she passed away - and was officially pronounced dead at about 5:30 pm last night. Both Miley and Dreamgirls actress Jennifer Hudson, 37, turned their chairs for Janice, wanting her on their respective teams, but Janice chose to be on Team Miley.

Freeman was a favorite on "The Voice" despite being voted off.

Cyrus, 26, shared a sweet tribute to Freeman on her Instagram Sunday with a picture of a rainbow poking out above the trees.

Her cause of death was not immediately known.
