Last chance for Pakistan to save series against Australia

Australia's captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in the third One-day worldwide of the five-match series here at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Wednesday.

However, skipper Shoaib Malik and opener Imam ul-Haq tried to consolidate their innings as they added 59 runs for the fourth wicket.

Umar Akmal (36) and Imad Wasim (43) also fought during their stand of 53 for the sixth wicket but Zampa mopped up the tail with career best figures.

"If we had lost tonight, it would have been my fault for batting so slow", Finch said.

Only once before, during Australia's 2015 World Cup semi-final against India at the SCG, has Finch taken so long to make an ODI half-century.

The Australian players not involved in the IPL will have a complete break in April following the series against Pakistan but will convene for a pre-World Cup camp in May in Brisbane which includes practice matches against New Zealand. "But we ended up getting a good score on a hard wicket".

Pakistan, who played without six senior players including regular captain Sarfraz Ahmed, need to up their game on Wednesday in order to stop Australia from taking the series.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are among the luminaries on that list headed by Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara, who is the only batsman to have scored four ODI tons in a row. "Before that we gave a chance to Maxwell and if you give chance to a good batsman, then expect to chase something big", said Malik of the dropped catch off Maxwell when he had made 27. Maxwell hit eight fours and a six in his chancy knock before getting run out in the 47th over.

Finch, who scored 116 and 153 not out in Australia's eight wicket wins in the first two matches - could have been the first Australian to score three hundreds in as many ODIs.

Finch holed out to leg-spinner Yasir Shah in the 42nd over but he had once again built the innings.

Zampa then dismissed Shinwari and sent Junaid and Mohammad Hasnain packing in successive deliveries to bowl Pakistan out for 186.

Australia brought in fast bowlers Cummins and Jason Behrendorff to replace injured Jhye Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
