Russel Wilson Becomes Highest Paid NFL Player WIth Contract Extension

The 30-year-old Wilson was set to make $17 million in 2019, the final season of the four-year, $87.6 million extension he signed in the summer of 2015.

Russell Wilson had only one year left on his contract heading into this season and he was desperate to get an extension from the Seattle Seahawks.

Wilson and the Seahawks shattered those rumors at that Wilson-imposed deadline by reportedly agreeing to a record-setting contract extension early Tuesday morning.

Russell Wilson and Ciara have millions of reasons to celebrate. Time for you all to go to bed. With Wilson entering the a year ago of his current contract and intent on getting something done by April 15, the team was on the clock.

It all happened just 30 minutes before Wilson's deadline of midnight last night and resulted in the Seattle quarterback committing himself to the team for the next four years in return for the biggest contract in National Football League history. The cost: four years and $140 million with a record $65 million signing bonus.

Will Wilson potentially going year-to-year make it easier for Seattle to secure long-term extensions for the trio, or will it make Seahawks general manager John Schneider more concerned about money, leading to a series of franchise-gutting moves?

"Oh yeah, if that's what I've got to do", Wilson said.

"She was involved, and her support really allowed the guys to function at the level where they were able to get this done", Carroll said.

In a similar line of thinking, The News' Kevin Sherrington recently wrote that the Cowboys need to get a deal done with Prescott as soon as possible. He has passed for 25,624 yards with 212 total touchdowns while completing 64.1 percent of his passes. He was instrumental in their surprising playoff run in 2018, marking the sixth time Seattle has reached the postseason during his seven years with the team.

Since being drafted by the Hawks in 2012, the five-time Pro Bowler has led the Hawks to a Super Bowl victory during the 2013 season.

Sources told ESPN and the NFL Network that Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, has been in Seattle for the last three days negotiating with team management.

Of course, this isn't the end for Wilson and the Seahawks.

"I just feel good that we'll find our way to a place that the contract enables us to surround him with a great supporting cast which a lot of it's in place".
