Of Course Google Is Developing A Foldable

Forward-looking: Samsung's Galaxy Fold might be a bit of a disaster, but that isn't discouraging other companies from developing folding phones. All that is clear for now is that Google won't be officially announcing one into the market anytime soon. Apart from the fact the Google is working on a prototype, nothing is known about this smartphone at this time. A Xiaomi foldable phone was already demoed in a video.

Mario Queiroz, Google's head of Pixel development, told CNET that the Android-maker has been already experimenting with the new form factor.

He admitted that foldable smartphones are addressing the user need for a bigger screen, but that alone isn't enough to generate interest and demand.

As per U.S. regulations, Samsung was required to notify customers that the pre-orders would be cancelled in the event the product had not been shipped by May 31, it said in a separate statement to Reuters.

"We're prototyping foldable displays and many other new hardware technologies, and have no related product announcements to make at this time", Queiroz told CNET, highlighting that Google is now focussing on the Pixel 3a series. "I think it needs to be more innovative than that".

This revelation will most likely raise questions on whether Google's ideal foldable phone is an innie or an outie.

Google has been working to optimize Android for the upcoming wave of devices, adding in new multitasking features and the ability to begin apps on the smaller screen and transfer them seamlessly to the larger tablet display when the device is opened up.
