Newark airport traffic delayed as plane makes unscheduled landing after leaving LaGuardia

There were no arrivals or departures at the airport for about an hour, starting around 8:45 a.m. Riccobon, who was not at the airport, said he was not immediately sure how many other planes would be sent to LVIA.

Without specifying the nature of the emergency, Newark Liberty International Airport said bit.ly/2KLrwB9 on Twitter that it had reopened and passengers should expect delays.

Newark Airport shut down all incoming and outgoing flights this morning, according to the airport's Twitter feed.

LaGuardia Airport's website confirmed that United Airlines flight 2098 for Houston left the NY airport at 7:57 a.m. and then was diverted to Newark airport.

At about 8:20 a.m., United Flight 2098, which is an Airbus 319, landed on Runway 22L at Newark, a law enforcement source told ABC News.

Passengers were escorted off the plane and taken to the terminal by bus.
