Man City sign Spanish midfielder Rodri in club record deal

Rodrigo Hernandez is officially a Manchester City player after the Citizens paid his 70-million-euro release clause to sign him on a five-year contract.

Manchester City have paid the buyout clause for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, the La Liga club have announced.

Rodri has joined English champions Manchester City from Atlético Madrid on a five-year deal.

I don't look for the team, for the club.

Manchester City's two new signings might just have opened the door for West Ham United to sign Fabian Delph.

After Rodri made it clear he wanted to leave Atletico, City deposited the €70m to secure the 23-year-old's signature. "With his coaching, I am going grow here".

"So, for me, it's very important". Barcelona players - and Thiago (Alcantara) at Bayern - told me, 'He's like this and he acts like that'.

City said the defensive midfielder, seen as a long-term successor to 34-year-old Brazilian Fernandinho, would play in the number 16 shirt. Pep Guardiola and his players arrived at the Etihad Campus in buoyant mood following their record-breaking campaign last season.

"He works hard defensively, makes himself available to receive the ball and uses it well when in possession". We live in a world where Pep Guardiola reigns as one of the best coaches in the world.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have wasted no time in finding a replacement for Rodri, as Los Rojiblancos immediately announced the capture of Porto captain Hector Herrera on a three-year deal.

The midfielder has made six appearances for the Spanish national team since making his senior debut past year.
