A morning-after contraceptive pill, called Ella, has recently been approved by the Food and Drugs Administration or FDA. This drug will be used after engaging in sex that is unprotected or the failure of contraceptives to work. The effectivity of the pill will be until five days from the previous situations.
This drug is already approved in Europe before it is approved in the United States. It’s name in Europe is the EllaOne, and in the United States, it is called Ella. The FDA has quickened the process of approving this drug. This drug is what is called an emergency contraceptive, because as the name suggests, it is taken right after failure of means to have protected sex.
The only other drug with the same purpose as that of the Ella is the Plan B drug, which is available without prescription for women 17 years old and older. In the case of Ella, a doctor’s prescription is required before being able to use it. In both cases, the persons taking the medicine will experience side effects.
These side effects include dizziness, fatigue, dysmenorrheal, abdominal pain, nausea, and headache. These drugs are not alowed for intake by women who are nursing or pregnant.
