Skype Goes Public, Potentially Attracting Many InvestorsSkype announced last Monday that it will be public, and will allow stock market investors to give them a target of 100 million US dollars. A lot of capitalists are really looking forward to this move by Skype, because Skype is a very popular software online, which allows its users to have free and almost free calls anywhere in the world.

Skype became very popular, in fact, that around its number of users increased by 40 percent last year. It’s sales increased from 25 percent since the first half of last year. This move of having an initial public offering will pave way for other high technology popular companies such as Facebook to sell shares for Skype.

On the other hand, a lot of skeptics are concerned that this may not work out for Skype, since practically a huge majority of its users use Skype for free. In fact, for the year 2007, the number of users using Skype for free is 91 percent, but this year, it has increased to 93 percent.

Still, Skype is earning and getting good profits from customers who are actually paying for their service. This payment goes to being able to call to a landline using Skype for a very cheap price.
