Toyota Production Suffers in ChinaA factory that works for Honda Motor Company resumes production after that said production factory promised to give its workers better salary. At about the same time, Toyota Motor Corporation faced the same problem with their factory in China, as that factory held strikes for higher pay, and so they had to stop production and face the same thing that Honda has faced. This has become a growing trend among Chinese factories owned by foreign companies. The cheap labor which is characteristic of that found in China is slowly diminishing because workers are slowly learning to demand for more pay.

Honda had to increase the pay of the workers of three factories to avoid further damage to their production. On the other hand, these increases were not really what the workers were looking for, but they continue to work anyway because they feel that they can’t do anything against it. For example, in one company, they requested 450 Yuan increase and they only got 200 Yuan plus 80 Yuan allowance.

Toyoda Gosei Company located in Tianjin, China, supplies for Toyota, and they closed down production because of strikes. According to Geoffrey Crothall, spokesperson for China Labour Bulletin, this is called a “copycat strike”, because apparently it is the result of a successful strike or strikes. Crothall expects more strikes of that nature in the future.
